Put the button where you want

The button that opens your note floats on screen, and you can drag it anywhere. Keep it right next to where you actually work, so opening a note barely moves your eyes. Turn it off if you'd rather use only the hotkey and the menu bar.

Keep it on screen

By default the window closes as soon as you click outside it. Click the lock at the top-right and it stays open for good — handy when you want to work while reading a note.

Search and replace in a note

However many notes you keep, you can get back to one by what you wrote. ⌘F opens a bar inside the note and colours every match; you can replace them too. To find a note itself, use ⌥⌘F.

Pin the notes you reach for often and they stay at the top of the list — handy for snippets and commands you paste again and again.

Keyboard too

⌃⌥M to open, ⌘N for a new note, ⌘F to search inside a note, ⌥⌘F to search your notes, ⌥↑⌥↓ to pick a note, ⌘E to export, ⌥⌘⌫ to delete, Esc to close. Most things you do here have a hotkey.

The opening key is configurable, so it can dodge whatever your other apps already use. The full list lives in the app's settings and on the support page.

Which way the window opens

The window can be pinned to the top right, bottom right, top left or bottom left of the button. The default is “Match position” — if it won’t fit at the edge of the screen, it opens the other way.

Or aim it, right there

In Settings you can put a direction ring around the floating button. Click one of its four directions and the window opens that way, whatever the setting says.

Never steals focus

When Syutto's window opens, the app you're using stays active. Browsing, coding, watching a video — write without interrupting any of it.

What you write stays

Everything is saved right after you write it, so there's no save button to press. Deleted notes sit in the Trash for 30 days, and a backup is taken once a day.

Notes export as txt or md, so moving them to another app — or leaving Syutto — is up to you.

Make it yours

Adjust the look — accent theme, button color, button icon — and the size of both the button and the window. Drag the button anywhere you like, or turn it off and use the hotkey and the menu bar alone.
